Restoration of a Royal
Royal Cromer was originally designed by famous course architect Tom Morris of St Andrews.Over the years cliff falls and vegetation growth watered down many of the aspects of the original layout. A restoration programme is now in place to re-introduce these key ingredients from Old Tom's minimalist design principles:
WIDTH: Generous fairways and wide reaching cliff-top views are being brought back by a programme of vegetation removal and feature teeing areas.
STRATEGIC BUNKERING: It was Tom Morris that introduced the concept of strategic rather than penal bunker placement. A combination of refurbishment, creation and removal is being utilised to re-establish the strategic element of bunker placement for the modern golfer.
GROUND GAME: Partnering with the STRI, turf has been firmed up to create a fast running golf experience. Closely mown run-off areas allow a wealth of options around the greens.
